Mr. Vegas Announes Sassa Step Winner
With thousands of votes tallied and reviewed in the last three weeks
of hectic voting, the organisers of the Sassa Step contest and video shoot winner have finally announced the winner. The winner is (drum roll please) Shy N, who tallied an incredible 35 per cent of the vote.
As the winner, Shy N will be flown from Japan to Jamaica to appear in
Mr. Vegas’ new Sassa Step music video which is scheduled to be shot on Wednesday, August 19, 2009.
Most Internet voters will remember that Shy N, who hails from Japan, had compiled a pretty nifty video on youtube where he demonstrated the Sassa Step on a sidewalk which ran parallel to a graffiti-decorated
wall. Viewers obviously thought that he had earned great style points
for adding a combination of break-dancing movements to his Sassa Step.
He also showed creativity by incorporating a nearby parking meter into his dance routine.
Alfamega Pens Open Letter To TI, “I Was Ready To Go To War For You”
Former Grand Hustle associate Cedric “Alfamega” Zellars has reportedly inked an open letter to T.I. which speaks on his past and present loyalty.
“On the real, I’m not coming to you as a disgruntled crying as*ed b*tch who’s mad about being let go,” Alfa wrote. “I’m coming to you as a man who is disappointed that he was publicly exiled by a friend. You’ve often said that you’re a man of your words but hommie; you are not being true to your words…I rode for you when there was no one else there to ride for you. 24/7, I was on call for you pimp. On many occasions, I sidelined my family choosing to risk my early demise for you. With a little cheddar, you can easily employ dudes to kill for you all day every day. Conversely, try finding someone who will put their life on the line and die for you…I was the first person you called when you got into that altercation in LA with Shaka’s DTP people. Without any questions, I was right there ready to go to war for you…Time after time, I defended your honor because you were my dawg; if they disrespected you, they disrespected me…Once this is published, I’m giving you a week to call me. Should you choose to not call me within that timeframe, I’ll know exactly where we stand. At that point, we’ll separate…Hope you come home soon pimp, keep your head up and let all the bull go. Don’t worry about propaganda, people always gone talk.” (Down South)
Alfa recently questioned Tip’s past statements about his criminal background and denied working for the DEA.
“Am I snitching in the hood,” he asked laughing. “It’s like people say I can’t go back in the hood, when I heard that I was in the hood. They still say I can’t go back to the hood but I was in the hood when I heard I couldn’t go back…Me and the dude [they say I snitched on] Ali, didn’t have any business together, ever. Me and Ali never been in the streets together, hustling, things like that. I apologized to dude because his name got caught up in a whole lot of things…How do you intentionally conceal your criminal past? Intentionally? Everybody in the streets knows me. Tip knew what I had been locked up for, I had been locked up for a gun. I went to jail for a gun. He talked to dudes who did time with me. His uncle and everybody did time with me. He was in prison with me…I don’t work for no motherf*cking DEA. I have never worked for the DEA. I had gun charges.” (Gyant Unplugged)

Iyara denies Richie Feelings ‘ attack at Uptown Mondayz
Written by claudemills

Dancehall deejay Iyara, a member of the Bounty Killer-led Alliance, has denied any culpability in the incident which injured popular sound system selector Richie Feelings during a session at the weekly Uptown Mondayz session.
Iyara, who is known for the song Rich Wi Fi Rich, said that there had been some arguments and expletives exchanged during the Bembe incident last week.
“Feelings said him no want no man fi tell him bout Grants Pen because ah Jungle him come from, and him say it two times. And him turn down the music and say ‘go suck yu madda’. Mi leave the venue,” Iyara, whose real name is Eric Sommers, said.
The artiste then said that the following Monday, he went to Uptown Mondays with only four people.
“Ah just four of us trod but when we got to the venue, we saw several street yute outside. Normally, dem wait on Killer and Mavado to come in, but dem never see dem, so dem splice in with me. Mi no know if dem caan pay or no waan pay but dem forward in with me,” he said
Iyara said he went upstairs and had been sipping on some liquor when he felt ill so he decided to get a cup of soup outside.
“I stopped to talk to the promoter at the gate to let him know I was an artiste and that I was just going outside for some soup when mi see a stampede ah come from inside the venue, and everybody was running for their cars, so I rushed to my ride as well,” he said.
Iyara denied having prior knowledge of the premeditated attack on Richie Feelings.
“I have nothing to do with what happened to Richie Feelings. I don’t have his number so mi nuh call him or anything. But mi caan apologise
fi something weh mi nuh know nothing about. I never send no CD to him, mi nah go ask him fi play my music, is a fan of mine did that,” Iyara
explained.
He said he regretted what happened.
“As an artiste, yu always need a selector to play your tune. And I am in a musical camp, I cannot do it without the help of others, the producer, the engineer, the artiste and the selector, we all work together and I don’t like what happened to Feelings, it could happen to me as an artiste,” he said.
Iyara said while he hadn’t received any death threats, it is possible that ‘anything could happen because the streets dem say is Iyara and
tings a talk’.
“Mi ah look fi anything right now. Killer come to me and ask me wha gwaan, Mavado do the same thing, and mi explain to them say mi nuh
know nothing about wah gwaan,” he said.
Twin of Twins Banned from Fully Loaded
As was previously predicted by the Twin of Twins and their management team after the initial incident, all the charges brought against the Twin of Twins were officially dropped today and the judge went as far as to reprimand both the police and the accuser for a misuse of justice and waste of the taxpayers money.
Curly Loxx explained outside the court that these types of problems often occur when an artiste takes a stand against hypocrisy and successfully exposes the corruption within the political system and the small minded pettiness of the music industry.
In a related story The Twin of Twins and their small entourage was met by armed security and banned from entering this years staging of Fully Loaded.
This incident which took place in front of witnesses on the night of the show occurred as security stated they was carrying out the strict orders from Fully Loaded promoter Sharon Burke. The Twins were attending the show to support friend and artiste Bounty Killer.
Curly Loxx has written over a dozen hit songs for him including Bounty’s only #1 “It’s OK”.
Neither Bounty Killer or Sharon Burke were available for comment.
Twins snubbed at Fully Loaded

Twin of Twins - Contributed
Twin of Twins are claiming they were disrespected by the promoters of Fully Loaded, held on Sunday at James Bond Beach.
The duo, Paul and Patrick Gaynor, said they were prevented from entering the venue and were turned back by security at the entrance. The brothers had a pair of complimentary tickets.
The twins believe they were barred from entering because of comments on their hot new CD, Stir It Up Vol 8 - Trials and Crosses, about Fully Loaded promoter Sharon Burke.
The twins have been known to draw the ire of many people through their albums, which poke fun at issues and people in dancehall.
Patrick told THE WEEKEND STAR that while they were engaged in a confrontation with security at the gate, a phone call between Burke and another security personnel resulted in them being turned away.
“We go and when we reach at the gate, a phone call was made by one of the security, saying ‘Twin of Twins are making their way’ and later direct orders from Sharon said ‘They should not enter in no way or form’,” Patrick said.
Burke, however, told THE STAR she gave no such instructions as she did not even have a radio on her. She said her staff at the gate acted on their own.
“I know that my staff members were very upset with the way they disrespected me on their album, so I guess they decided not to let them in,” she said.
“I didn’t even have a radio on me, so why would they want to say that,” she added.
Kartel Signs Gaza Kim, Drops ‘Teenage Pregnancy’ single

Portmore Empire general Vybz Kartel has signed a new talent to his label, a teenaged singing sensation who hails from Christian Pen and who he has re-christened Gaza Kim.
“The girl is talented and a good singer and we believe that she has a great future in dancehall. We chose this song, Teenage Pregnancy, because it reflects a common social problem we have in Jamaica with young teenage girls becoming pregnant early and the ramifications for the family unit when it happens. So this song addresses that situation and we have printed several thousand posters advocating safe sex, and with slogans like ‘Stay in School’ and ‘Wait for the Right Time’ trying to get young people to make informed decisions about sexual activity,” he told one876entertainment.com.
Kartel also signed other artistes such as Sheba from Spanish Town and Merrital from Montego Bay recently.
Richie Spice & Allison Hinds To Perform King & Queen At The Crop Over
Prolific hit-maker Richie Spice is currently heating up the airwaves with a barrage of new songs including his latest hit Street Life, King & Queen (done in tandem with Allison Hinds), What Day, Jah Never Let Us Down, Creation & the controversial Yuh Nuh Seeth in which he warns meat eaters about the swine flu.
Richie Spice will be in Barbados for the annual Crop Over Festival this Sunday August 2. He will be making a special appearance on the event along with Barbadian Soca Queen Allison Hinds, who is one of the festival’s headliners. The two stars will perform their duet King & Queen on stage for the very first time. They recently completed a video shoot in Jamaica for King & Queen. This highly anticipated music video was directed by topflight music video director Jay Will and is scheduled to be released soon.
Richie Spice is also one of the featured artists on the sound track for the soon to be released movie Redemption Of Paradise, which features dancehall artist Macka Diamond in the lead role. His contribution to the sound track is a beautiful love song titled True Love, which was written and produced by him for his I & I Productions label. The final week of August will see him leaving Jamaica for a four-week tour of the US west coast, along with Spanner Banner.
The
King of Flossing makes dazzling Sumfest debut
Smartly attired in Gucci and making a bold fashion statement, the King of Flossing, Flippa Mafia, made the Reggae Sumfest stage his own on Dancehall Night, Thursday, July 23.
It was in front of a capacity crowd at the Catherine Hall venue in Montego Bay that Flippa got his Sumfest baptism and came up a better man, more in demand for stage shows, both locally and overseas after proving that he can hold his own with the best of the best.
The flossing champ, who had earlier stated that he wasn’t sure whether or not he would actually do his champagne-popping, money-throwing routine, actually was able to balance his act nicely and give fans a total flossing and musical experience.
Coming from successful overseas gigs, Mr Dem Yah & Dem Yah delivered his set with ease and expertise. Those who didn’t know his songs listened attentively and rocked as the no-nonsense deejay wasted no time in reeling off songs from his ever-growing repertoire, including Bout Dem A Floss and Look Alike.
He took the excitement level up quite a few notches when he brought on the bubbly which he popped open on stage - to shouts of delight - sprinkled the audience and then went deep into his pocket and peeled of bills from a stash which he threw out to his fans. The Press corps and other specially invited guests at the front section scrambled on top of each other in their to grab the Jamaican and US dollars the Flossing King had thrown out. One female from a local print media made a dive and came up with US$30, which she quickly shoved in her pocket. However, persons went up to her asking to see the money to determine if the money was real.
Their expressions were priceless when they saw and felt for themselves that the Flossing King was no fake!
“Of course it’s real bills,” Flippa said in a post-performance interview. “It’s my way of treating fans. They spend a lot of money on their outfits and I appreciate that. So instead of spending money on expensive stage props, I simply throw it out to my fans,” he explained.
Flippa Mafia thanked Sumfest organizers for adding him to the Festival’s line-up and declared that he is looking forward to performing on Reggae Sumfest in 2010.

Aidonia - file
“No Alliance, no ‘Gaza’, no ‘Plaza’, no ‘Gully’; JOP a dat me seh,” says former Alliance member Aidonia after what seemed like a hiatus from the dancehall industry.
Aidonia said he has reinvented himself and is now ready to take back his spot in the dancehall industry with JOP (Jag One Production) by his side.
“Mi hide weh and reinvent mi thing. Mi nah deal with anything fi throw off mi energy or mi meds. So any negative people I was around, we just walk wide. We not even waan breathe the same air weh dem breathe,” Aidonia told THE WEEKEND STAR.
When asked if his statement was in reference to anyone in particular, he said ‘no’.
However, he is no longer as close to Vybz Kartel, who he used to fondly refer to saying ‘Addi Mi Daddy’. Aidonia left the Alliance shortly after Vybz Kartel in 2006.
high-powered weapons
In February 2008, Operation Kingfish questioned the two about a picture with men resembling them both posing with what appeared to be high-powered weapons. However, they were never charged.
“The last time mi talk to him (Kartel) was over the phone about a month ago. Mi only see him pon the TV and on the Internet. Da one time link link deh everyday, no deh deh again,” Aidonia told THE WEEKEND STAR.
“If we see each other, no malice, no nutten. If mi hail him and him nuh waan hail me, a fi him business that. Right now a music me a deal wid. Aidonia come back fi di number one spot inna music. Di standard a music drop. Music needs melody but it still needs lyrics and flow.”
Aidonia’s performance at the recent Fully Loaded show at James Bond Beach in St Mary, was also a surprise, as it was organised by Sharon Burke, Bounty Killer’s booking agent.
However, Aidonia said he is no longer in any form of malice with Bounty Killer, so being there was not an issue.
“Mi always seh Bounty Killer a mi grandfather, we look up to Killer to the fullest. Me and nobody nuh inna nutten. A nuh no malice thing. We see each other a Bibi (national footballer Ricardo Gardener) dance the other day and we had a reasoning,” he said while noting that he has no plans to rejoin the Bounty Killer led Alliance.
“We a keep it neutral. The whole a we a brothers and sisters inna di music industry,” he said.
“Me and Shane-O a lead out JOP,” Aidonia said, while noting that Shane-O joined the group about four months ago.
He said the focus is now on Suhverto from the JOP camp, who recently released a single called Step Pon Bwoy. He said he wants him to be the next big thing out of the camp.
Work will also be done with other artistes from the group like Deablo, Size Ten and Show Crime.
In the meantime, Aidonia is working with producers such as Russian (Head Concussion Music), Jordan McClure (Chimney Records), DASECA, Birch, Sparks, Stephen McGregor and Equiknoxx.
He is also working on an album, which will have about 15 new tracks, seven of which are already complete. In addition, he will release another CD with some of his older tracks.
Aidonia also has upcoming shows in Europe, The Bahamas and New York.
