This album boasted 15 tracks including two collaborations, one each with Beenie Man and Vybz Kartel; it represented various genres of Reggae music and captured the essence, journey and versatility of the artiste. “MY WORLD” was released in Japan by Pony Canyon Int., on September 20th, 2006.

The next 12 months had several visits to Japan doing the ‘My World’ album promotional tours, radio interviews, performances and photo shoots for magazines in the cities of Tokyo, Osaka and Okinawa while filming three (3) music videos in Jamaica. Two videos were shot in the first quarter of 2007 for “STEP UP” which is the lead single on the album and “We’re Missing You” (The Tribute) which was recorded after the album was released, the third and final video “Secret Admirer” was shot in the last quarter of 2007.

Two photo shoots were done during the course of the year, the first one was for new photos to update her ‘MySpace’, Website and EPK (electronic press kit), and the second was for the Cover of the BUZZ Magazine ‘SUMMER SWIM SUIT’ issue.

Sumfest 2009 Dedicated To Micheal Jackson

Posted by riddimja

This year`s `world greatest show case` of reggae music will be dedicated to the memory of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, Reggae Sumfest officials said this week.

With just days to go before Sumfest 2009 gets underway in Jamaica, Chairman Robert Russell, at the Montego Bay Launch of Reggae Sumfest at Pier 1 on June 30th, announced that this year’s staging will be dedicated to the `greatest entertainer in the world.`

Jackson had actually visited and performed in Jamaica in 1975 as a member of the Jackson 5. The group was hosted then by former Prime Minister, Edward Seaga, at his home in Temple Meads, St Andrew. At the time, Seaga was opposition leader and head of the now ruling Jamaica Labor Party. The Jackson 5 was the opening act for Bob Marley and the Wailers at the outdoor National Stadium.

Russell said it is important that the top reggae show be dedicated to the top musical star, as the world continues to mourn the famed singer. Jackson passed away on Thursday, June 25th in Los Angeles after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 50.

Caribbean fans have been among those joining millions around the world in mourning his sudden death.

The 17th annual Reggae Sumfest will get underway this July with the annual beach party at Cornwall Beach, featuring the sounds of many of Jamaica`s more popular local deejays including Errol Lee & the Bare Essentials, Cameal Davis, Khalil, Timeka Marshall, ZJ Ice, DJ Mix Master Marvin and Crazy Nei, backed by Danger Zone Super Strong.

How Can We Stop The Bleaching Phenomenon In Jamaica?

We’ve been hearing the term ‘bleach’ in the lyrics of our music for years, so this is definitely not a new thing, but the sales of bleaching cream continue to rise in Jamaica. At every street corner in downtown Kingston you can purchase a bottle of bleaching cream. Men are bleaching, women are bleaching, boys and girls are bleaching. At every Passa Passa fete you will see a lot of girls who are bleaching, or just take a drive into the ghetto and you will see girls, their faces covered with a white cream busily bleaching. While the sales are rising, people do not seem to realize that bleaching cream is actually illegal. It contains Mercury which is a toxic chemical that accumulates into the body which is linked to liver damage. There are many ill affects of skin bleaching - thinning of the skin, a severe form of acne called steroid acne and the appearance of a lump of fat at the back of the neck called cushings syndrome. Once the skin is lightened, the probability of skin cancer also increases because the skin no longer contains melanin which protects most African Americans from the harsh damages of the sun.The Jamaica Observer states that it is hard to believe that in the 21st Century in Jamaica the country which is the heart of black pride - a country which gave the world Garvey and Marley and Rastafari - is still bleaching.Listen to Queen Ifrica - Mi Nah Rub, and learn a quick lesson about the effects of skin bleaching!

Gramps Morgan Breaking Ground With Solo Effort

Posted by riddimja

In a time when reggae music is in a state of dejection and dancehall lyrics are redundant, Gramps Morgan proves positive music can still top the charts; and he did with ‘Wash the Tears’, the first single from the album. #1 in Canada for 4 consecutive weeks on CHRY 105.5 FM, ‘Wash the Tears’ also debuted at #8 on Under Pressure’s Top 20 Singles Chart in Italy, before it began charting in Toronto, New York and South Florida simultaneously, peaking in the latter
two cities at the #3 & 4 spots, respectively. The video also debuted at #2 on Riddim Jamaica’s Weekly Top 12 Video Chart.

Gramps Morgan remains dedicated to conscious Roots Reggae & Lovers Rock as he expands his horizons to new markets. Currently on India Arie’s Soul Bird Tour, Gramps continues to impress audiences across North America with his distinctive sound. Gramps appears on “Therapy”, the second single from Arie’s “Testimony Vol.2 Love and Politics” album. In its first week of sales, ‘Therapy’ was the most downloaded track. Fans can look forward to the accompanying video soon. In the meantime, Gramps’ reggae-remix of the song appears on 2 Sides of My Heart Vol. 1.

Following the release of 2 Sides of My Heart Vol. 1, Gramps Morgan will accompany John Legend and India Arie this summer on his Revolver Tour in addition to performing his own solo dates including: Chicago on July 4th; Atlanta on July 10th; Charlotte, North Carolina on July 11th. Canadians can look forward to his appearance in Toronto on Aug 2nd. Gramps will also appear on Buju Banton and Friends alongside his brother, Peetah Morgan, Burning Spear, Shabba Ranks, and Queen Ifrika at Madison Square Garden on August 7; Sept 6 at the award winning, Irie Jamboree, York College - Queens, New York.

ONE876 UPDATE - Fancy Thursday promoter killed!

Image
Yellow crime scene tape marked the entrance to the La Roose nightclub this morning as senior detectives combed the area for evidence in yet another nightclub shooting in Jamaica. This time, four persons were shot and killed during a shooting incident at La Roose nightclub in Port Henderson Road last night.

According to CCN reports, at about 11:15 last night, five persons were allegedly shot by unknown assailants who travelled in three motor cars.

“Four were shot fatally at the establishment. Investigating officers are still on the scene, as soon as more information is available, it will be disseminated,” an officer at the Constabulary Communication Network told one876entertainment a few minutes ago.

Reports reaching one876 are that one of the men killed, Ricardo ‘Bully’ Thomas, is the promoter of the popular Fancy Thursdays show at the La Roose club.

“Bully was killed, his brother Kirk and the man who drives Bully. I heard that Penco was shot as well, but I am not sure that he was killed,” one source said. “I heard that three car loads of men went over there and shot them and then escaped.”

The Kingston Metropolitan area is known for violent shootings of this nature. There were at least two major high profile shootings last year at entertainment spots. Jamaica Defence Force soldier, Leslie Moodie, was charged in connection with the Double Diamond nightclub shooting in which four people were killed in October 2008. Moodie’s lawyers are arguing that he acted in self-defence. And in March 2008, Clifton Reid was killed during a British Link Up dance at La Roose. Six persons, including a female, received gunshot wounds during the dance while two others were injured in an ensuing stampede.

“La Roose come in like is a salt place, last year, dem kill the man from Roses over there and now four persons dead. Memba say ah over de so Daddy Vic get shot, Dahlia get shot and Pinky did get shot, over de so salt when it come to nightlife and look how dem spend a money and fix up the place,” one person commented. That shooting incident involving Doreen ‘Pinky’ Prendergast, Daddy Vic and Dahlia occurred during the ‘English Birthday Dance’ in 2003 at the club. No one was killed.

Michael Jackson’s Love for Diana Ross Continues Even in Death

michael_jackson_diana_ross_will.jpgIt may have come as a surprise to some that Diana Ross was mentioned in Michael Jackson’s will as a secondary caregiver to his three children, but her inclusion was not unexpected to those who had tracked their longstanding relationship, dating back to Jackson’s early childhood.

In his will, Jackson specified that if his mother Katherine Jackson, his first choice to become guardian for his three young children, died before he did, then he named Ross to take custody of the kids.

Omitted from the will was Jackson’s ex-wife, Debbie Rowe, the mother of his two older children.

Jackson’s three children, Michael Joseph Jr., 12; Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, 11; and Prince Michael Jackson II, 7, known as Blanket, have been staying with their grandmother Katherine at the family compound in Encino, Calif., since Jackson’s death last Thursday.
